Gandhi Youth Organisation (GYO) and Everest Cricket Club recorded victories when play in the Georgetown Cricket
Association (GCA)/Banks Malta Supreme U-13 tournament continued on Saturday last.
Playing at GNIC, GYO defeated Diplomats by 10 runs. Batting first Diplomats scored 205 for the loss of 12 wickets off 25 overs. Ntini Permaul and Alphonso Zaban were their leading batsmen with 16 and 12 respectively. Brandon Matthews picked up two wickets. GYO replied with 215-7 in 25 overs. Extras contributed a healthy 55, while Matthews made 10. Nicholas Williams had two wickets.
Everest beat Transport Sports Club (TSC) nine runs at the said venue. TSC took first strike and managed 268-8 in 25 overs. Adrian Hinds led with 49 (4×4,4×6) as Brandon Ramnarine claimed 2-20. Everest responded with 277-5 in 25 overs including 54 extras. Sachin Persaud cracked 19 and Kishan Bhola 13. Alvin Mohabir snared 2-23.
According to the competition’s regulations, the batting side shall be divided into five pairs and each pair shall bat for five overs. Batsmen shall have unlimited “lives” but each dismissal shall result in 10 runs being deducted from the team’s total. Batsmen should change ends after each dismissal except on the last ball of the over. Each player on the fielding side must bowl at least two overs, with the exception of the wicket-keeper. Each team shall commence its innings with a score of two hundred runs.
The winning team should be the side scoring the higher number of runs after deduction for dismissals has been made. In the event of a tie, the players on each side will bowl one delivery to the stumps and the team scoring the most hits will be declared the winner.
