Robert Hussain, a businessman appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.
It is alleged that on November 7, last, at Crane Housing Scheme, West Coast Demerara, he had in his possession one .32 revolver and seven rounds of matching ammunition without being a holder of a firearm licence.
The businessman pleaded not guilty.
The charge resulted from the police taking minibus GKK 1892 to the police station where they conducted a search. The court heard that the defendant was the only person in the bus at the time. Hussain was searched and police found the firearm and ammunition on him.
Hussain was granted $300,000 on each count and ordered to return to court on November 13.
