Dear Editor,
I would like to respond to an article that was published in the Thursday 30th October, 2014 edition of Kaieteur Newspaper Sports Section page 27 captioned “BCCDA X1 defeated West Berbice in 15\15 Match”. The article also said that the team name was “West Berbice Super Kings” which is the name of the Association 20\20 cricket team.
West Berbice Cricket Association (WBCA) would like to inform the general public that they were not part of any cricket match that was organised by the Berbice Chamber Of Commerce and Development Association (BCCDA) played on Saturday 25th October, 2014 at the Albion Cricket Ground.
As the Public Relations and Marketing Officer of the Association I find it disrespectful for the BCCDA to state that the WBCA T20 Super Kings team was part of the event. I would like to state that a few persons who are executives of the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) hand-picked several players from three clubs in West Berbice to form the team and named it after the association’s T\20 team and the WBCA was not consulted.
I must mention that those are the same persons that tried a few years ago to overthrow the elected body that runs cricket in West Berbice but their attempt failed and therefore we are calling on the BCCDA and BCB to retract their statement because the association was not part of the activity.
On behalf of the President and Executives of the Association I am asking the BCB to discipline those persons who wrongfully used and illegally represent the Association.
I also call on the BCCDA to condemn that illegal act and ask that an apology be issued to the Association as we demand respect from all other bodies including the BCB and its affiliated clubs and sub Associations.
We will not tolerate those that wanted to act illegally on behalf of the Association because the WBCA is an elected body that serves in the best interest of cricket in the area.
I do hope that in the future both the BCB and BCCDA will consult the executives of the Association before selecting a team to represent West Berbice and to have its players involved in fund raising activities of such nature.
The association is willing to work with anyone, group, organisation or society when it comes to developing cricket in West Berbice, Berbice and Guyana at large.
We hope that that such action does not repeat itself and look forward towards a better working relationship with the board.
Abel Seetaram
PRO & Marketing Officer,
West Berbice Cricket Association.
Please share this to every Guyanese including your house cats.
