Nadene Gilbert was on Friday last admitted to the local bar by Justice Roxanne George.
In presenting Ms. Gilbert’s petition, Attorney at Law Mr. Teni Housty acknowledged the gender dynamic in law and urged the petitioner to choose her role models well.
He advised that law can consume your life, but the impact can be controlled. He suggested that you bring your own strengths and talents to your practice of the law.
Justice George, in accepting the petition spoke to the importance of earning the respect of the bar, the bench and your clients. Such respect, she advised, must be inspired by decorum and deportment, and she emphasized the need for adequate preparations of presentations before the court.
Justice George advised Ms. Gilbert that law is a jealous profession and consumes your everyday life but with commitment success is assured. She urged post-graduate studies in fields to which one’s talent lends itself.
The young Attorney, in response, used the opportunity to thank her parents, Eugene and Yvonne Gilbert, her brother Dominic and the many Attorneys, mentors, professors, relatives and friends who helped overcome the many challenges in the years prior to the moment.
She was especially grateful for the support she received from her mother, her godmother Donna Benjamin and her guardian in Trinidad, Ms. Brenda Fraser.
Ms. Gilbert promised to learn all she could in her “green” years, apply the utmost diligence to all work as an Attorney at Law, and to someday be able to give back as a stalwart of the profession.
