Relating the incident of Deally’s death, his mother, Rose Deally, explained that she learnt of her son’s death by accident, some time Sunday, after information of his demise was relayed to her by a resident of Westbury.
According to Deally, the tree limb pinned her son. There were reports of consistent rainfall accompanied by heavy breeze and lightening.
Mrs. Deally said that she was told that her son however died moments after he was rescued by some men, who were tasked with sawing off the huge limb that pinned her son.
Mrs. Deally further explained that on the night of the incident she was told that her son exited his camp and went to a nearby shop to purchase something when suddenly the weather changed bringing with it heavy rains . She said lightning and heavy winds also accompanied the rain.
Mrs. Deally said that during the heavy rains and lightning her son attempted to run back to his camp when the tree limb fell and pinned him down. “He didn’t die right away, he was hollering for help but by the time help came, he had died.”
Three other men, who were with him at the time, were also injured. They have since been admitted as patients at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Mrs. Deally said that her son worked with a private firm and she only heard from him once. He had left the Essequibo Coast to work in the Interior over a year ago.
