The pageant opened with an Amerindian inspired dance performance by the Classique Dance Company. This was followed by enthusiastic introductions from each of the competing delegates. Each had support among the crowd.
The swimsuit segment was hot; the delegates displayed their bodies while fire-eaters illuminated the stage with controlled pyrotechnics.
The evening wear segment commenced with vibrancy and sophistication. There were stand out beauties; Hardatt’s dazzling red dress, Barker’s intricately crafted white gown and Cain’s distinctively cut yellow outfit.
Chairing the event was the beautifully decked out Feliz Robertson who held the audience’s attention while the contestants were off stage.
Entertainment included a colourful fashion display from the Clairan’s Boutique and an electrifying performance by Trinidadian Soca sensation, Kes the Band.
After showcasing their physique and grace it was time for the ladies to prove their intelligence. The final three were Fraser, Barker and McPhoy. Coming out on top of this segment were Fraser and Barker.
Other than the coveted title of Miss Guyana Universe, delegates won other titles such as included Best Smile and Miss Intelligence – won by Barker, Miss Body Beautiful – won by Hardatt; and Miss Congeniality – won by both Hamilton and Cheddie.
In the end it was Barker, who received the title of Miss Guyana Universe, besting the other contestants.
Speaking moments after her coronation an emotional Barker said, “I still feel like I am dreaming. This whole thing has been an amazing journey… it will be a long time before I get used to everything.”
Members of the audience also communicated to Kaieteur News that the night definitely delivered on excitement and surprises. However some more work was needed in organization with regard to programming and seating arrangements during the event.
In January, Barker will be representing Guyana at the Miss Universe International pageant in Doral, Florida.
