A 54-year-old security guard on escort duties was shot to his left foot by two gunmen who carted off an undisclosed
sum of cash from Muneshwer’s Limited on Water Street, Georgetown.
The robbery occurred about 16:40 hrs in front Muneshwer’s Limited opposite Fogarty’s Department store on Water Street, Georgetown.
The injured guard has been identified has Terrence Haywood, a father of five of Friendship, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
When this newspaper visited Haywood at the hospital, he was waiting to seek medical attention in the facility’s waiting area.
He told this newspaper that he was escorting one of the company’s managers from one store to another in the same area when he was wounded.
“Just as the manager come out the vehicle in front Fogarty’s, one bandit hold him by his neck and collect the money. When I see that I reached for my gun but the man shoot me,” the wounded security guard recalled.
He added that the two men fired about 12 shots before they escaped in a waiting vehicle. A police outpost is located just a stone’s throw from where the security guard was shot.
According to the security guard, the ordeal lasted a few minutes.
Investigations are ongoing. No one has been arrested as yet.
