Home team Trinidad and Tobago hammered Dominican Republic 6-1 at the Ato Boldon Stadium on Wednesday evening when Group 7, Round 2 action in the Caribbean Football Union Men’s Caribbean Cup kicked off.
In the other game at that venue, Antigua & Barbuda defeated St. Lucia 2-1. In Group 8 play at the Sylvia Cator Stadium, Port Au Prince, Haiti, Barbados defeated St. Kitts & Nevis 3-2, while home team Haiti were held to a 2-2 stalemate by French Guiana.
Haiti scored in the 29 minute through Jeff Louis, Solvi Michael equalized one minute later for French Guiana. Haiti was again on target in the (45+1) via a Jean Alcenat effort. French Guiana neutralized that advantage again when Legard Jean David scored in the 54th minute.
St. Kitts was the first to score against the Bajans in the 12th minute compliments of a Devaughn Elliot goal. Four minutes later Marioa Harte converted for Barbados. The Bajans cantered into the lead and vener looked back compliments of a brace from Ranaldo Bailey (24, 29).
Harrison Panayiotou hit the network for St. Kitts in the 86th minute to reduce the lead but were not able to score again.
In Group 9 play, Curacao and Martinique drew 1-1. After a goalless first half, Martinique took the lead in the 51st minute compliments of a Julien Faubert goal but Curacao earned an equal share of the points when they equalized in the first minute of injury time, Vidarrell Merencia the player on target.
The game became highly physical in the final minutes as the teams sought to gain the ascendancy,, Curacao were reduced to 9 players after their Captain Charlton Vincento and Gianluca Maria were red carded (90+2).
Guadeloupe trounced St. Vincent & the Grenadines 3-1. Thomas Gamiette (41), Ludovic Gotin (53) and Loic Nestor (69) were the scorers for the winners; SVG’s consolation came off the boot of Myron Samuel in the 46th minute.
