Commander of Police B Division, Assistant Commissioner Brian Joseph, has renewed the call for business persons to be more security conscious.
This call was made in the wake of a few robberies in the ancient county.
According to Joseph a number of businesses, although they are making a lot of money, do not have security guards on their premises. He said the simple thing now is for these businesses to install security cameras on the premises. The cameras would help to identify the perpetrators.
He cited a number of instances where cameras were used to nab thieves and bandits. Persons cannot continue doing business the same old way. They must learn to invest some money into the business and their own security.
Joseph spoke about the robbery at the Chinese restaurant at Rosignol, West Berbice, where no security guard or cameras were in place.
During the robbery which occurred last Thursday the Chinese couple and their employee were brutalized and robbed.
Later, a survey of the area found that none of the businesses had proper security arrangements in place.
People are just taking everything for granted. On September 8, 2014, court regular Keno Thompson 23, of Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam and Joel Gittens, 23, of the same address, were caught on camera at Evil Eyes Audio and Video Store of New Amsterdam, stealing one Black Berry Torch cellular phone which a customer had left on the counter. The phone was worth $65,000. At present, they are before the court on a charge of Simple Larceny.
Notorious bandit, Anil Kumar Seetaram, called ‘Black Shirt’, 42, of No. 60 Village Corentyne, was recently jailed after he pleaded guilty to two counts of Simple Larceny. He had entered the business premises of Rajendranauth Parsram at No. 61 Village, between September 13 and September 14, and stole a quantity of items worth over $200,000. He repeated the act the next day. However, he was unaware that his actions were being recorded by a surveillance camera.
When confronted with the evidence he pleaded guilty.
