Head Teacher of Chinese Landing Primary School in Region One (Barima Waini), Learman Abrams, was placed on bail yesterday after he was charged for fondling two female students.
Abrams, 52, of Region One (Barima Waini) who appeared before Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court yesterday, is alleged to have behaved inappropriately with the two girls, aged 8 and 9, last year while they were at the school.
The court heard that the Headteacher had during September, allegedly fondled a nine-year-old female student’s genitals but his activities did not end there. The Magistrate was further told that Abrams later turned his hands on an eight-year-old female pupil between November 1 and November 22, last year.
According to information reaching Kaieteur News, the man interfered with the students at different times when he was alone with them. The young girls later confided in a female teacher attached to the said school about the abuse they allegedly suffered at the hands of the Headteacher.
The concerned teacher then called in social workers from the Welfare Services and a Probation Officer, who contacted the police. The matter was reported and investigations lead to the 52-year-old being charged with two counts of sexual activity with a minor.
The case is being prosecuted by Police Lance Corporal, Jomo Nichols. The accused was initially granted bail in the sum of $150,000 on each count but his attorney made an application for it to be lessened.
At the Magistrate’s discretion, bail was then reduced to $75,000 on each count and the Headteacher is expected to appear at the Acquero Magistrate’s Court again on October 6.
