The impending welterweight clash between world rated boxer, Clive Atwell and Jamaican
welterweight Contender champion, Sakima Mullings is still to be confirmed but Atwell has already commenced preparations for the bout. Sources close to Atwell informed Kaieteur Sport that negotiations for the fight are ongoing and they will be in contact with the Jamaican sometime today to finalize details.
Sunday morning, Atwell continued preparations for the bout and said that he does not want to be found napping should confirmation come soon. The Caribbean Boxing Federation (CABOFE) champion went through his paces with several hectic rounds with his Barbados based counterpart, Revlon Lake and was surely in a no nonsense mood as he exchanged vicious punches in 8 grueling rounds.
Lake is also using the sessions to whip himself in shape for a lightweight fight against Trinidadian, Prince Lee Isidore in the Twin Island Republic, October 3 next. The two were being tutored by coaches, Terrence Poole and Lennox ‘Cappel’ Daniels and Atwell, who had humiliated Isadore in an earlier fight en route to a 10th round knockout, doubled as a sparring partner and issued some advice.
Lake’s career has had a rollercoaster ride and he has not won his fights as consistently as his talent suggests. He it was that had come from behind to inflict a deadly left hook to Mark Austin’s jaw that left him crumpled on the canvass. Lake had also suffered losses to Atwell and quite recently, surrendered the local lightweight title to Dexter Gonsalves. He said that the workout with Atwell is serving him well and his conditioning is coming in nicely.
