Twenty-one-year-old Levy La Cruz, the man, who allegedly killed miner, Raphael Danns, last week Tuesday, at Mariborough, in the Lower Pomeroon River, was slapped with the capital charge of murder and was remanded to prison until October31.
La Cruz appeared before Magistrate Sunil Scarce on Monday.
A police report said that La Cruz and Danns were drinking at a shop at Mariborough, in the Lower Pomeroon on September 8, when an argument ensued. It is further alleged that La Cruz unsheathed a kitchen knife and proceeded to stab Danns in the region of his heart. The young miner succumbed to his injuries before receiving medical attention at the Oscar Joseph Hospital, in Charity.
Police apprehended La Cruz several days later. Danns worked as a miner in the Puruni area. He is survived by two sisters, and was the only son for his parents.
