The Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) recently presented schoolbags to 30 less fortunate
students of the New Amsterdam Primary School as part of the BCB Diamond Jubilee celebrations and organized by the entity’s Special Events Committee to coincide with their 75th Anniversary.
Chairman of the Diamond Jubilee Anniversary, Hilbert Foster at the presentation said that the BCB strongly believes in the importance of education and since 2008 has placed great emphasis on promoting the “Say Yes to Education” message noting that education was the foundation to success.
Foster urged the students to make sure that the pursuit of an educational background remains their number one goal in life. An educated mind, Foster stated, opens doors that would remain shut and urged the students to use the schoolbags for the intended purpose.
He expressed gratitude to Mr. Bobby Deonarine for his sponsorship of the schoolbags. BCB President Keith Foster noted that under his leadership the BCB has expanded its mandate beyond cricket as it strives to make a positive difference in the lives of youths.
First Vice President Anil Beharry disclosed that since 2008, the BCB has assisted hundreds of students to stay in school by contributing educational materials, while also promoting the “Say yes to Education” message during its cricket tournaments.
Headmistress of the New Amsterdam Primary School, Sherry Ross thanked the BCB for the donation expressing delight for the outstanding work of the BCB.
