Kings add Alonzo for clash against Bulls; Royals and Jets to collide
After piping fourth ranked Retrieve Raiders 63-62, Half Mile Bulls are one win away from reaching the final of this year’s Victory Valley Royals 20th anniversary knockout basketball tournament.
Tomorrow night, the fifth seed Bulls will take on number one ranked Kings, the Linden champions, in one of two semi final matches slated for the Mackenzie Sports Club, Hard Court.
The Bulls will hope for another good night at the office against the Kings and will likely unleash the likes of youth nationals Teron Welch and Travin Dryden along with centre Shane Lewis and Kevin Easton in their bid for victory.
However, the Kings are serious about adding another trophy to their already bulging collection and have recalled the services of former national centre Jason Alonzo to strengthen their lineup which should include former national players Steve Neils (Jr.), Abdulla Hamid, Tahquille Johnson and Quincy Easton.
This game, the feature of the night will be preceded by a clash between the second ranked Amelia’s Ward Jets and the third rated Victory Valley Royals at 19:00hrs.
The Jets will start as favourites and have in their lineup the likes of Allister Webster who will be a force inside, shooting guards Amanikki Archibald and Rodwell Pellew.
The absence of national Shane Webster could be a setback for the Jest but they will hope to turn that into a positive for them. The running Royals offense will be centered on the fast rising Chris Williams and Orlando Glasgow with back up from Shane Carmichael and Selwyn Henry.
At stake are two places in the final set for Saturday night at the same venue where a top prize of $70,000 is up for the taking with $30,000 set aside for the losing finalist.
