The 26-year-old robbery suspect who was shot by a licensed firearm holder on Saturday in Alberttown, died at a private hospital early yesterday.
Dexter Lindo, of Shell Road, Kitty, was shot three times about his body around 13:00 hrs.
Police in a statement said that two men armed with handguns had entered the Wayne Beverage Paradise stall at Merriman’s Mall, Bourda and upon seeing them, the female owner ran and raised an alarm.
A licensed firearm holder responded and followed the vehicle in which the two armed men had escaped.
The owner of the firearm reportedly caught up with the car at Light and Fifth Streets, Alberttown, and confronted Lindo, who had exited the vehicle and entered a shop.
According to the police, during the confrontation, the 26-year-old drew a firearm but was shot by the licensed firearm holder.
He fled on foot, allegedly leaving an unlicensed .32 Beretta Pistol with four rounds behind.
Lindo was eventually found at a private hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
However, this publication was told that Lindo and others were suspects in a robbery which was committed on a businesswoman at Bourda last week.
Kaieteur News was told that the victim’s brother began enquiring about the suspects and their vehicle.
There are reports that the men found out that the businesswoman’s brother was looking for them.
“When they hear that, they went back to the store yesterday and threatened the woman. After they leave, she called her brother and he immediately started looking,” a police source said.
The brother allegedly caught up with the men in Alberttown.
It is alleged that one of the men shot at the brother who returned fire and wounded Lindo, who ran into a nearby shop where the police found him covered in blood.
