A 32-year-old motorcyclist died in the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC)’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) around
03:00 hrs yesterday, almost two days after he was involved in an accident at Friendship, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
Dead is Delon Harlequin of Lot 10 B Grand Scheme, Craig, EBD.
According to information received, Harlequin was heading north along the East Bank Demerara Public Road when the driver of a car made a U-turn at the gas station in Friendship and the vehicle struck him.
Reports are that from the impact, Harlequin was flung into a trench opposite the gas station. He was rushed to the GPHC where he later succumbed.
“I hear the car made a U-turn and hit Delon. He was coming home from the gym at Garden of Eden when he met with the accident,” the dead man’s mother, Merle Harlequin said.
She explained that it was a nurse at the medical institution who called and informed family members that the younger Harlequin, who was on life support, had passed away.
The bodybuilder had sustained head injuries, a broken left foot and abrasions to his body.
The driver of the motor vehicle is in police custody.
