A 47-year-old Ruimzeight, West Coast Demerara man, accused of refusing to pay a taxi fare, has been remanded to prison.
Magistrate Ann McLennan on Tuesday heard that Gary Banker hopped in Fitzroy Grant’s car at Cornhill Street, Georgetown, promising to pay $5000 when he arrived at Parika, East Bank Essequibo, but refused to do so upon his arrival.
Police Prosecutor, Corporal Deniro Jones reported that the taxi driver filed a complaint with the police against Banker and an investigation was conducted before the charge was instituted.
Banker pleaded not guilty.
Making a bail application, the unrepresented Banker told the court that he resides with his sister at Ruimzeight, West Coast Demerara, and is employed as a miner at Buck Hall in Region 3.
His application was met with objections from the Prosecutor who stated that he was a flight risk since he does not have a specific address.
Banker was refused bail and is scheduled to return to court tomorrow.
