United States of America-based female Surinamese sprinter, Danielle Clark is in Guyana to run at this weekend’s Boyce/Jefford Track and Field Classic V, which will be held in Linden at the Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC) Ground, Linden.
Clark, who is on scholarship in the United States at Eastern Michigan University, will compete in the 100m and International Women’s 200m events with personal best times of 11.9 and 24.28 seconds respectively.
“I am looking forward to this competition… I was invited and I’m happy to be here,” Clark said yesterday after Kaieteur Sport caught up with the athlete during workout at the Police Sports Club Ground, Eve Leary.
Asked if she was ever exposed to Guyanese competition before, Clark said that apart from the Inter-Guiana Games years ago and CARIFTA Games, she was never competed against Guyanese but has heard of sprint ace Alita Moore.
“I have heard about Alita Moore, and I know it’s going to be good competition. I am aiming to break the 12-second barrier and looking for the top spot in both races,” the 22-year-old indicated before resuming training yesterday.
Meanwhile, Moore, who was also at another part of the venue training, made it clear that she will not be under any threat in the final, which is scheduled for Sunday. “I am prepared and once I am prepared I am always confident,” Moore quipped.
Moore is also on scholarship in the United States and in Guyana for the meet. She will also run the 100m and 200m races, which are expected to also feature, US-based, Brenessa Thompson in an epic showdown. Shannon Griffith will most likely be the trump card for Linden in the events.
