A 35-year-old woman was forced to cancel her trip to Barbados yesterday, when her estranged reputed husband doused her from head to toe with waste lubricating oil just as she was about to board her flight at the Ogle Airport.
Kaieteur News understands that the woman and her reputed husband who lived together are having ongoing problems.
According to a source, the woman, who hails from Land of Canaan on the East Bank of Demerara, wanted out of the relationship and the ensuing arguments led to her packing her belongings after booking a flight for the Caribbean island where Crop Over festivities are winding down.
The man became angry and reportedly accused the woman of going to Barbados to meet another man.
When she left home yesterday he followed her all the way to the airport and as she was taking her suitcases out of the car that had transported her, the man walked up with a container of the used oil and poured it on her.
The commotion attracted security personnel at the airport and the man was promptly detained and handed over to the police, while the woman, who complained of a burning sensation on her skin, was sent to seek medical attention.
This newspaper understands that the man was charged on several occasions previously, for assaulting the woman.
A police source indicated that more than likely, he will face similar charges as a result of the recent act.
