K&B Mining and Hardware Supplies yesterday renewed its sponsorship for the fifth consecutive year for the annual Boyce & Jefford Track and Field Classic that will be held on August 16-17 at the Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC) Ground, Linden.
The Mining Company disclosed that its support for the meet over the last five years has brought a mutually rewarding experience. Accountant, Seeta Husain, on behalf of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Hema Persaud, stated that it is an honour to continue funding the championships.
“It is indeed our pleasure to support this event; we have been here from the beginning, and we will continue to support this event. We are proud to be a part of something that is continuing to give athletes a prominent place by showcasing their talent,” Husain said.
Chairman of the Management Committee for the Boyce/Jefford Track and Field Classic V, Colin Boyce, committed to ensuring that the meet reaches its apex. He assured that everything will be done to ensure growth with every passing year.
Boyce thanked the CEO for sharing the vision of the Boyce/Jefford Organisation. He revealed that so serious is the nature of the Classic that workshops for officials were held to apprise them of the rules and standards required, according to international statutes.
“We’re extremely grateful for your support. We will continue to have an impressive meet that you can always be proud to be a part of,” Boyce said, adding that the meet has raised the bar for athletes and athletics in Guyana with its financial awards and competition.
“When you look around, you had every other major sport in Guyana with a signature event with lucrative cash prizes, but none for athletics; we want to continue to change that dynamic with this meet and so far we have been achieving our goals,” Boyce continued.
The fifth edition of the Boyce/Jefford Track and Field Classic will feature leading athletes from at least five countries, some of whom are on duty at the Commonwealth Games in Scotland for their respective countries, at the MSC Ground next month.
