DEAR EDITOR,
It is not usual for me to take issue with any of your columnists/op-ed writers on any matters. However, today I make an exception.
I totally disagree with ‘Peeping Tom’ on the contents of his article regarding the GINA media outfit. As long as this media entity continues to be funded from the public purse it cannot only disseminate the views of the government, to wit, the PPP/C. My tax dollars pay for the outfit’s operations and so it must foster balanced reporting at all times. It must give coverage for the views of all the political entities making up the parliament.
Now let’s look farther afield. The BBC is a public-funded media organization. It does not only carry the views of the government of the day. It carries news on a global basis covering the political spectrum in Britain. To do otherwise would mean that even the minority parties operating in Britain, whose members contribute to the public purse, would be left out. This would invite the wrath of countless persons in that land.
Since my taxes fund GINA, I need to hear the views of even those whom I do not readily appreciate. That is how it must be. If the PPP/C wishes to have its views aired only, it must come up with its own funding.
Cyril Walker
