After crashing his motorcycle on Carifesta Avenue in an ‘alleged’ race with his friend, 22-year-old Stephen Nelson
died at the Georgetown Public Hospital yesterday.
The resident of 53 Friendship Village, East Coast Demerara, died at approximately 18:30 hrs while receiving treatment at the institution’s Accident and Emergency Unit.
In an interview with reporters, the mother of the deceased who asked for her name to be withheld, said that she received the disturbing news of her son’s condition yesterday morning.
She said she was ‘very shocked’ to hear that Stephen was involved in a motorcycle accident, since the bike belonged to his brother, and he was not allowed to use it.
His stepfather said that he ‘heard from eye-witnesses that his step-son was participating in a race with his friend on Carifesta Avenue when he was injured.
