A team of overseas-based Essequibians is expected in the country soon to participate in the much anticipated Libation ceremony, to be observed at mid-night before Emancipation Day, at Damon Square, Anna Regina on July31, 2014.
Areas identified for the observation of Emancipation activities to be held in the Region are, Dartmouth, Queenstown, Danielstown, Henrietta and Supenaam.
According to a release by the Essequibo African Association Group, it was noted that on July 31, members of the EAA Group will feature a march commencing from La Belle Alliance, Essequibo Coast, before converging at Damon Square. Participants are expected to sing to the sounds of drumming during that march.
Other activities include reflection speeches, highlighting the occasion of Emancipation by outstanding Essequibians. There would also be dances, singing, skits and drama.
On August 1, a Church service would be observed at the African Association building from 8:00 hours, after which senior citizens would be treated to lunch at the Queenstown Centre. The Association will also host an Emancipation Fair at Damon Square, Anna Regina and an African Day Symposium.
