The eight cricket teams of Guyana’s leading youth and sports organisation, the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTY&SC) on Friday last launched their million-dollar schoolbags for Sports Programme.
The teams under the programme hope to share out $1M worth of school bags to less fortunate students and promising youths involved in sports. On Friday last, the programme was boosted with $100,000 worth of school bags from the GTM Group of Companies at their Georgetown head office.
Club Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster at the presentation informed that the club strongly believes in the importance of education and every calendar year invests heavily in assisting youths to stay in school.
Last year, the club shared out $800,000 worth of school bags and educational materials to over 600 students. This year, every child attending the RHTY&SC Cricket Academy and Republic Bank Educational Summer Camp would also receive a school bag.
Foster expressed gratitude to the Management of GTM for their continued assistance to the Club’s Pro-Education campaign stating that it was the second successive year that the insurance company was donating schoolbags.
He noted that investing in education was the most important thing that the company can do as it was crucial to the development of Guyana and its most important asset, youths. Company Secretary of GTM, Mr. Hemraj Goberdhan stated that his company was pleased to be associated with the Schoolbags for Sport Programme as it was committed to the development of education in Guyana.
Goberdhan also stated that GTM was pleased to be associated with the RHTY&SC, an organisation which is known for its success on and off the field and praised the club for its emphasis on promoting the value of education among youths.
GTM, he stated was committed to assisting the Schoolbags for Sports Programme as it supports the Say Yes to Education message. Dave’s Television Station (DTV-8) has also pledged support to the programme and is currently airing commercials to encourage members of the public to donate educational materials.
The Schoolbag for Sports programme is being undertaken by the RHT Farfan and Mendes Under-15, Bakewell Under-17 and Second Division, Pepsi Under-19 and Intermediate, Metro Female and Gizmos and Gadgets First Division and Under-21 teams.
Please share this to every Guyanese including your house cats.
