An East Bank Demerara resident will be spending the next three months in prison for threatening to burn the house of a former Assistant Commissioner.
Charges for threatening and abusive language were formally laid against Clifton Cloutie also known as “Muti” when he appeared before Magistrate Dellon Bess at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
According to the indictment, Cloutie used abusive and threatening language towards the Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR)’s Heeralall Makhanlall, a retired Assistant Commissioner, on July 20 at Back Street, Herstelling, East Bank Demerara.
To the charge, the accused pleaded guilty.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant Superintendent of Police Deneshwar Maindranauth, who explained that the two men are neighbours. He said that the defendant was using a series of expletives and was spoken to by the retired Assistant Commissioner, but he continued to curse.
Cloutie, the Prosecutor said, subsequently threatened to burn Makhanlall’s house. He was then arrested and charged with the offence.
Magistrate Bess sentenced the man to three (3) months imprisonment on each charge. The sentences will run concurrently.
