Guyanese Delroy Tyrrell will be representing Trinidad and Tobago for a second time at the
Goodwill Swim Meet in Suriname from August 15th to 17th. Delroy, who represented T&T last year at the same Meet in Barbados, copped the 3rd place individual (Boys 11 – 12) at the just concluded National Short Course Swim Championship held at the St Michael’s Swimming Pool in San Fernando from July 9th to 13th. This Meet is used by the Amateur Swim Association of T&T to select swimmers on the Goodwill team.
Competing in 9 of the 10 Goodwill events, Delroy turned in impressive performances in the 50 Fly (time 33.09 secs), 100 Fly (114.40 secs) and 200Free (123.25 secs) all B time qualifiers.
The Tidal Wave Aquatics Trinidad swimmer, coached by veteran coaches Hazel and Chabeth Haynes, also posted qualifying times for the 100 Back (118 secs) and 100 Free (106 secs).
Delroy’s last outing earned him 3-gold for the Relay at the Goodwill Games in Barbados. This time, he plans to win individual medals.
Delroy’s parents are proud of their son’s rapid ascent in the sport and they thank God for their son’s ability.
