Guyana are still in contention to claim their first Regional under-17 cricket title after inflicting a crushing 136-run win against Jamaica at the Bon Accord ground in Tobago yesterday in the fourth round of the six-team tournament.
Guyana followed up their first round defeat by beating Trinidad and Tobago by 62 runs on Friday after their second round fixture with Barbados was washed out.
The Guyanese galloped to 255 for nine off 50 overs with Adrian Sukwah leading the way with a solid 59. Travis Persaud (35), Kemo Paul (25), Richie Looknauth (24*) and Sherfane Rutherford (23) all got starts for the Guyanese as Michael Frew took 3-51 and Tyrone Daley supported with 2-48 for the teenagers from Reggae Country.
Jamaica in reply were blown away for 86 off 27 overs despite 28 from Brad Barnes and an unbeaten 26 from Tyrone Daley 26. Essequibian Paul continued his impressive showing in the competition with 4-28, while Rutherford had 3-17 and off-spinner Richie Looknauth 2-20 for the South Americans.
Guyana face the Leeward Islands at Mount Pleasant tomorrow in the final round.
