A brutal innings in response to the St Lucia Zouks 161 for 5 by Chris Gayle saw the Jamaica Tallawahs
romp to a comfortable 7-wicket win to open the defence of their CPL title in Grenada yesterday.
Gayle pillaged 111 not out off just 63 balls. His brutal knock included 5 fours and 10 sixes as his team reached the target in 19 overs. Chadwick Walton 23 and Adam Voges 15 were the Tallawahs batsmen in double figures as Gayle stole the show like a wrecking ball.
The Zouks won the toss and chose to bat and made a competitive 161 for 5 off their 20 overs with Henry Davids 56, Darren Sammy 29 not out, Andre Fletcher and Johnson Charles with 27 each. Andre Russell took 2 for 27 from 3 overs to be the best bowler for the Tallawahs.
The Tallawahs begun their response and in the process lost 3 wickets, but it was all Chris Gayle and the first century of the tournament.
The action continues Thursday with the Hawksbills versus Tallawahs at North Sound in Antigua from 3:30pm, while at the Providence Stadium here, the Guyana Amazon Warriors face the Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel from 7:30pm.
Scores: St Lucia Zouks 161/5 (20/20 ov); Jamaica Tallawahs 162/3 (19.0/20 ov).
Result: Jamaica Tallawahs won by 7 wickets (with 6 balls remaining).
