Ten members of the Ethnic Relations Commission (ERC) were identified by the National Assembly last night with the adoption of a report by Chairman of the Committee on Appointments, Dr. George Norton, of A Partnership for National Unity (APNU).
The Motion for the adoption of Fifth Report of the Committee on Appointments in Relation to the selection of Members of the ERC was tabled by Dr. Norton and supported by Government.
However, the House was cautioned by People’s Progressive Party/CIVIC (PPP/C) Member of Parliament Juan Edghill, who expressed concern about putting mechanisms in place, so that members of the Commission would not be persons who would engage in racially inflammatory language at any time.
Edghill also pointed out that the process from which the 10 persons were selected was not flawed, and commended the Motion to the House.
The National Assembly then approved the following persons from the various categories as Members of the ERC established under the Constitution:

Labour Movement
Mr. Norris Emanuel Witter
Private Sector Organisations

Women Organisations
Ms. Ruth Howard

Mr. Barrington Braithwaite
