– First major international medal for Sampson
Sprint aces, Jason Yaw and Jevina Sampson, both of Running Braves Athletics Club, were third on Sunday in the male and
female 400 metre Under-18 race at the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Junior Championships in Mexico.
Kaieteur Sport understands that Yaw ran an impressive 47.17 seconds for his CAC bronze medal while Sampson ran 57.22 seconds for her first major international medal since establishing herself as a force to reckon with on the local scene.
The other participant at the prestigious junior meet, Cassey George, placed sixth in the 1500m and fifth in the 3000m, competing 2200m above sea level. George reportedly had to take oxygen after complete her events owed to difficulties breathing.
George is a double 2014 CARIFTA Gold medallist. Sampson and Yaw also competed at the CARIFTA Games earlier this year but failed to medal. Running Braves Athletics Club Coach, Julian Edmonds was Manager/Coach of the Guyanese team in Mexico.
