Ranks of the country’s main anti-drug unit yesterday unearthed a massive quantity of cocaine and marijuana during two separate undercover operations in Diamond New Scheme, East Bank Demerara.
In the first instance, agents from Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) seized some 2,700 pounds of marijuana in Diamond. One person has been detained to assist with investigations.
And, another person was arrested after 4.2 kilograms of cocaine was found in a house at Fourth Bridge, Diamond New Scheme, along with $1million in local currency.
The undercover operation came three days after a 42-year-old American, Jermaine Carter, was busted with a quantity of 7.057 kg of suspected cocaine in three packets of ‘Kerigold’ milk powder at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport.
And a press release from the Guyana Police Force stated that at about 08:10 hrs yesterday, ranks from the Police Narcotics Branch conducted a search of cargo contained in an airline bond at the CJIA and was found cocaine within ceramic ornaments.
The quantity has not yet been ascertained but two men and a woman have been arrested and are in police custody assisting with investigations.
