Ronald Etwaroo, aka ‘Cow’, a resident of Lot 6 BB Eccles, was brutally chopped yesterday by an alleged mentally challenged individual, at approximately 1:30 pm, at ‘Godfrey’s Bar’, next to the Agricola Community Center. It was reported by an eyewitnesses, that Etwaroo, 56, was ‘drinking’ at the bar with friends, when the reportedly “insane” man, called ‘Tony’, attacked him with a cutlass, disfiguring his face.
Residents who observed the assault said that the bar was filled with customers but no one attempted to capture the attacker. It was explained that one man who tried to go to Etwaroo’s assistance was chopped on his hand as a result.
An ambulance arrived on the scene about half an hour later, and rushed the badly injured Etwaroo to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
After the assault ‘Tony’ made his way to the nearby Agricola Police Outpost and turned himself in with the cutlass and a bottle of Banko Wine in his hand
No one knows for sure the motive for the attack, but one eyewitness explained that ‘Tony’ is known to be insane, and was previously jailed for chopping his own mother.
Customers of the bar reportedly stated that the alleged insane man turned up yesterday and claimed that Etwaroo owed him $5000, and began chopping him. However, Etwaroo family did not buy that.
Several members of Etwaroo’s family, including his brother and cousins, turned up at the outpost after the attack, demanding justice, and the whereabouts of the assailant.
When interviewed by reporters at the Georgetown Public Hospital, Etwaro’s family was grief-stricken. His wife, Jean Pooran was insistent along with other relatives, that ‘Tony’ assaulted her husband without reason.
She said his claim was “an excuse to defend himself and justify his assault.”
Etwaroo’s relatives explained that ‘Tony’ is a resident of McDoom, and spends most of his time on the streets. They were outraged at the damage he did to Etwaroo’s face, and are currently seeking justice.
Up to press time last night Etwaroo’s condition was still listed as critical.
