– claims he stashed $1.3M for himself before attack
The driver/salesman who police say stole $9M from his employer and then claimed he was robbed is to be charged today.
He has been in custody since Monday, when he allegedly gave police two conflicting stories about being attacked and robbed in Cemetery Road.
The money disappeared shortly after the Associated Industries Limited (AINLIM) employee uplifted the cash from Neal and Massy Ltd., which is a subsidiary of AINLIM.
Kaieteur News understands that the salesman first told police that he was driving back to his workplace at around 14.00 hrs on Monday when two gunmen on motorcycles intercepted him and made off with the money. However, under interrogation, the employee reportedly came up with an even more bizarre story.
According to sources, the salesman claimed that he had received word some days prior to the heist that bandits were planning to rob him. He is said to have claimed that on the day of the ‘attack’, he received a call from the ‘bandits’ who told him to drive to Cemetery Road. On reaching there, a man emerged from a ‘red car,’ held him at gunpoint, and escaped with the money.
However, the salesman reportedly stated that he had stashed $1.3M for himself prior to the attack. That money was recovered at a Beterverwagting, East Coast Demerara location.
Kaieteur News understands that the salesman continues to insist that the ‘bandits’ made off with the rest of the money.
