At a special ceremony at the Georgetown Club last Thursday, the Rotary Club of Georgetown Central installed its new Board for the Rotary Year 2014-15.
Outgoing President, Judy Semple-Joseph highlighted the achievements of the past year, with particular emphasis being placed on the Club’s Literacy project in the Sophia Community which saw an improvement in passes at the National Grade Six Assessment.
The reins of the Club were handed over to the new President Gillian Rockcliffe who was installed by Assistant Governor Marcel Gaskin. The new President thanked the outgoing President and Board members who agreed to be part of the team which includes President Elect Ron Robinson, Vice President Ivor O’Brien, Secretary Dr. Sase Singh, Treasurer Joseph Eastman, Director Ramesh Persaud and Sergeant-At-Arms Mark Bender.
It was highlighted that Rotary’s theme for the year 2014-15, ‘Light up Rotary’ has been inspired by the teachings of Confucius who said ‘it is better to light a single candle than to sit and curse the darkness’. In keeping with the spirit of the Rotary theme, the new President expressed that throughout the upcoming year, several candles will be lit during the execution of projects while building on the successes of the previous year and improving in other areas.
