Randolph Martin Barrow, who has been running to the Anna Regina Police Station for the last eight days, says that he is disgusted by the police officers who failed to address his serious matter.
According to Barrow, he initially visited the Anna Regina police station, first on June 2 and lodged a complaint with the station Sergeant.
He told the police that a known group of young men was responsible for stealing his plantains, bora, pumpkin and ochro from his garden, located at the Queenstown back dam. He said that the damage was some $30,000.
Barrow said that he knew the persons who were responsible for stealing his produce and he told the police.
He was forced to visit the commander in charge, at “G” Division, since his complaint was not treated with any urgency. The senior law man instructed a squad to accompany him to Queenstown, Barrow said.
The angry farmer said that he took the policemen to one person’s house where some of the produce was recovered but the thief wasn’t at home.
What however, angered Barrow was the fact that when the guy was eventually caught and taken into custody, he spent the stipulated 72 hours behind bars but charges relating to simple larceny were not imposed.
Still not satisfied with the police actions, Barrow said that he again visited the Anna Regina police station on Friday after the guy was released and proceeded to question the police. Barrow said that he was told that the police did not have enough evidence to impose any charge.
But they did find the stolen products in the man’s home.
Barrow said that on June 9, last, the suspect, after his release, pulled a gun on him when they met in the back dam. He said that the man made threatening remarks. He threatened to kill him, he said.
Barrow said that he had to run in fear of his life. He said now he is afraid to venture into the back dam to attend to his cows.”My father-in-law would now attend to my cows for me.”
After an inquiry, a senior police officer suggested that Barrow revisit the Anna Regina Police station and talk to the head of the Criminal Investigations Department. He has refused. He is contending that the police are not treating his matter seriously and he cannot afford to spend excessively since he needs his money.
