Gunmen escape with wristwatch and $7000
A 34-year-old mason was making his way home around 02:30hrs yesterday when he was shot and robbed by two armed bandits at Friendship, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
Anthony Johnson is now nursing a gunshot wound to his right leg at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
Police in a release said that the father of one was walking along a road in the Friendship Squatting Area when he was attacked by the two men, one of whom was armed with a firearm.
During the incident Johnson was shot and injured by the perpetrators who took away $7,000 and his wristwatch before escaping.
On his hospital bed yesterday, Johnson said that he had just parked his car at the gas station and was making his way home when he noticed two men dressed in black following him.
“I does normally park my car at the gas station because when I parked it by me, people does break it up, so is park I park and was walking when I see them men walking behind me,” the father of one recalled.
He added that at first he did not think that the men had plans to rob him.
“I didn’t think anything until I see them walking fast, fast behind me. I started to run and they fire three shots and I fall down,” the Friendship resident said.
He added that while lying on the muddy ground, the men walked up to him, emptied his pocket and took away his wristwatch.
“When they left, I shouted for help and people come out about ten minutes after and take me to the hospital.”
Investigations are ongoing.
