Veteran Guyanese broadcaster, Roger Eamonn Floyd Moore said his final goodbye yesterday morning after a prolonged illness. Moore, 54, died in the United Kingdom where he had resided for the last nine years.
Roger was born in London, England but lived in South Ruimveldt Park, Georgetown, when his parents migrated. He attended Queen’s College and did his A levels at St. Rose’s High School through the then Hinterland Development Programme.
Popular, for his TV show, “At Home With Roger,” aired on HBTV, Moore used his voice as one for those who had not.
Before his stint as a TV host, Moore worked as a broadcaster at the Guyana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) from 1982-1995, where he hosted a number of programmes. He was however fired from that entity reportedly because he voiced concerns about the People Progressive Party administration soon after the 1992 General elections.
He worked at Channel 9 from 1995-2005, where he also read the news and produced documentaries.
Moore migrated to the United Nations in 2005 reportedly because he felt his life was at risk. This was soon after the murder of Ronald Waddell and the imprisonment of Mark Benschop for “treason”.
Moore lived well in England for a year and in 2006 found out he was seriously ill. He was a diabetic and had developed renal failure.
Kaieteur News understands that he “recovered” for a short time during which he had a presence on www.blogtalkradio.com .
Yesterday, in an invited comment, Mark Benschop—who interviewed Moore two days ago, told Kaieteur News, that Moore will be remembered as “a friend, a dedicated broadcaster and someone who wanted the best for his fellow Guyanese.
Moore’s brother, Edward, said that he was a lover of music and anything Guyana. He played the guitar and was an avid videographer and family man.
