In a bid to further improve the functions of the Guyana Police Force, CGX Energy Inc. donated $2M to assist with the Community Outreach Programmes.
The presentation was made recently by Co-Chairman of CGX Inc Professor Suresh Narine, to newly appointed Commissioner of Police, Seelall Persaud.
Co-Chairman Narine said that this support for the Commissioner’s Community Outreach Programme was prompted by the evident success of similar programmes around the world in promoting positive role models for youth and in providing viable alternatives to a life of crime.
CGX’s decision to step forward with a helping hand at this time is because the company is aware that the programme has received some initial criticism. CGX believes that it is important to give it a chance as such programmes have long-term goals that may not be immediately obvious to those who would wish to see immediate results.
Professor Narine called on the private sector to recognize, as CGX has, the direct benefits of this programme to law and order and the development of human resources and to join them in supporting the laudable efforts of the Commissioner and his Officers.
The oil company’s on-going corporate social responsibility was also shown in 2013 when CGX invested US$24,000 in partnership with primary and secondary schools in Guyana. This year they have doubled their targeted investment to US$48,000.
While Education remains the main focus, the company supports all efforts to help create positive role models and to support community initiatives at the grass-root level by partnering with those already active in the field.
