The respective winners of the Berbice Volleyball Association (BVA) Inter School (Secondary and Primary) Volleyball competition, which was played on April 9th last at the Port Mourant Training Centre Courts, received their prizes at a simple ceremony held last Tuesday at the J.C. Chandisingh Secondary School.
The prizes were handed over by Competition Coordinator, Godwyn Allicock who congratulated the teams and encouraged them to continue to practice for participation in the National Schools Competition scheduled for later this year.
Allicock expressed his disappointment that only one Primary School turned up for the Primary School segment of the competition. He was however pleased with the response from the Secondary Schools, although he had some reservations that only two sent female teams.
The Male category was won by PMTC Red who defeated the Upper Corentyne Industrial Training Centre (UCITC) in the final-30-28. JC Chandisingh Secondary (JCCSS) placed third by defeating Canje Secondary School (CSS) 25-4.
The Female category was won by JCCSS who defeated CSS 15-11.
The first place winners in both categories each received a trophy, compliments of the National Sports Commission and a Mikasa MVA 330 ball, compliments of the BVA. Second place UCITC received a ball and a FIVB net, while JCCSS received a MVA 330 ball for placing third.
The BVA also presented two Mikasa Kids balls to Mr. Carl Vanier, the Physical Education teacher of the Corentyne Comprehensive Sec. School to assist in that school’s volleyball development programme.
Allicock was assisted by senior players Quacy Matheson, Jason Seelochan and Javed Motiepersaud.
The BVA will be holding another School Competition as soon as the CSEC examinations are completed.
