Two buildings have been ravaged by fire on the Corentyne within 24 hours.
A building which was once used as a police station on the Corentyne has been burnt to the ground. According to information, the fire of unknown origin quickly engulfed the condemned two-storey building situated at Hogstye, Corentyne which once served as the Hogstyle Police outpost.
Information states that the fire started around 21:30 hrs Friday. One unit from the Rose Hall Town outpost responded to the call, but by the time the truck arrived on the scene the building was already flattened. Residents formed a bucket brigade but their efforts were futile.
During the wee hours of Thursday the home of deaf-mute Chandradai Ragnauth, 57, of Lot 26 Cromarty Village, Corentyne, Berbice, was burnt to the ground. That fire occurred around 00:30 hrs.
The woman was not at home at the time of the fire as she had gone to spend the night by another villager.
The woman who is staying by friends in the village is appealing to the general public for assistance.
