An ex prison officer may soon find himself back at his work place, but in a different capacity. Mikhail Henry, 25, of Fort Ordnance Housing Scheme, East Canje, Berbice, has been charged with robbery with violence.
Henry is accused of robbing Lakeram Takdori, of Cumberland, East Canje on May 10, last, of $2,000. Prosecutor, Sergeant Godfrey Playter, told the court that the victim and the accused are known to each other, but are not friends.
Around 22:00 hrs on May 10, last, Thakdori was cycling on the Cumberland Public Road when he was accosted by Henry and two others.
Henry demanded that he give him some money to buy ‘dope’, but he refused. Henry then grabbed him and choked his neck before throwing him to the ground. Takdori was beaten in the process by Henry even as one of his accomplices pleaded for the man’s safety. He was robbed of $2,000.
During the ordeal he lost consciousness and was revived when one of the men threw water on him.
A report was made to the Reliance Police station and a medical report showed that he suffered injuries to his jaw, neck and lip. Henry who was in hiding was subsequently nabbed and charged.
He was placed on $60,000 bail.
