Police at “G” Division (Pomeroon/Supenaam) are seeking a 34-year-old Three Friends, Essequibo Coast rice farmer, who fired four rounds at his estranged wife yesterday morning. At the time the woman was at her mother’s Hampton Court residence.
Monday’s incident didn’t result in any fatality. But one bullet grazed the 24-year-old woman’s forehead. Police have discovered a single spent shell but reported that four live rounds were discharged by the rice farmer, who has since gone into hiding.
It is understood that the incident allegedly stemmed from a disagreement between the rice farmer and his reputed wife, 24-year-old Asha Singh, who were separated for a period.
According to information, Singh and her two children were living at her parents’ residence, at Hampton Court, while her estranged husband Kumar Bissoon lived at his parents’ Three Friends home, some distance away.
The couple shared two young children.
Initial reports are indicating, the rice farmer, Kumar Bissoon, of Three Friends, Essequibo Coast visited his reputed wife, at her mother’s residence indicating to her that he wanted to engage her in a conversation.
Before long, it was reported that Singh was shot and taken to the Suddie Public Hospital. From investigative reports, it was noted Bissoon apparently wanted his children from Singh.
Singh, who sustained a graze to her forehead, was taken to the Suddie Public Hospital, where she was treated and discharged.
The incident had triggered alarming concerns from people in the closely knitted community.
A senior police officer has also indicated that the matter is being pursued seriously, especially in the effort of apprehending and prosecuting Bissoon.
Police have been scouring areas along the Coast and in the back dam.
