As preparation continues for the Kennard Memorial Turf Club (KMTC) annual pre Independence one day horserace meet slated for Sunday 18th May at the club’s entity, Bush Lot Farm, Corentyne, Berbice, over 50 horses have so far entered.
The six race meet, which has close to $3.5M in trophies and cash incentives up for grabs, has so far seen most of the top stables around indicating a willingness to be a part of the day’s action.
So far a number of sponsors are on board with Demerara Distilleries Limited (DDL), Trophy Stall Bourda market, N and S Mattai and Company, Hand in Hand Insurance, Berbice Bridge Company, Goodwood Racing Establishment, D. Gobin Agri Spares, Horseshoe Racing, Chatterpaul Deo and Anirude Ramcharitar among others.
The feature event, which is for animals classified D 1and lower, is a one mile affair and with the first prize being set at $500,000 and trophy horses such has Treacle, Fresh Again, Run Nana Run and Stormy Flame have already entered to take the arena by storm in their quest for the top money.
The other events on the day are for animals classified G1 and lower with the winner set to take home $300,000 and trophy over 6F. There is a race for three and four year old Guyana and West Indies Bred maiden animals which also has a winning purse of $300,000 and trophy up for the taking.
The race for the ‘I’ class animals carries a winning purse of $250,000 and trophy over 7 Furlongs. The two J class races on the day’s card are both over six furlongs. The J1 race has a winning purse of $200,000 and trophy.
The J3 and lower contest will see the animals compete for a prize of $150,000 and trophy.
The outstanding jockeys, trainer and stable will all received trophies and other accolades compliments of Ramesh Sunich of Trophy Stall, Bourda Market and the organisers.
Horse owners, trainers, grooms and others interested in entering their horses have a few days left to do so since entries are set to close on Sunday May 11th.
