Hand in Hand Insurance joined the list of sponsors for the Berbice Cricket Board/Berbice Chambers’ third annual Independence T20 Cup 2014 to be held on May 25, the day before Guyana’s Independence Celebration.
This tournament promises to be the biggest ever. It is expected for the first time to be played under international quality floodlights, the same as the National Stadium. Two star studded teams from Berbice will challenge two strong teams from Georgetown. Players such as Assad Fudadin, Devindra Bishoo, Veerasammy Permaul, Royston Crandon, Sewnarine Chattergoon, Rajiv Ivan, Shimron Hetmyer, Kandasammy Surujnarine, Jonathan Foo, Kevin Ramdeen, Keon Joseph and Raun Johnson will be in the Berbice teams, while Chris Barnwell, Trevon Griffith, Leon Johnson, Zaheer Mohamed, Chanderpaul Hemraj and Tagenarine Chanderpaul will don colours for Demerara.
A feature softball game will be played between Memorex and Universal DVD Club.
Proceeds from this event will go towards charity such as cricket clubs, orphanages, schools and health purposes among others. Attractive cash incentives will be up for grabs for players. Patrons can win gate prizes, while there will be entertainment for the children.
At a simple ceremony held recently at the sponsor’s New Amsterdam office, Mr Tajpaul Ajodhia handed over the sponsorship cheque to chairman of the organizing committee Anil Beharry. In doing so, he said that his company is aware of the role of sports in the development of our communities. He said that the first two editions of this event impressed all who attended and his company feels compelled to renew its sponsorship. He alluded that his company has many branches across the length and breadth of Berbice and is happy to give back to the County.
In response, Anil Beharry, Organizing Committee Chairman, was delighted to have the insurance giant on board again. He said that Hand in Hand Insurance Company is a perfect example of a good corporate citizen, citing that all of the proceeds go back into the community.
Beharry promised all sponsors and stakeholders that the tournament will run with the same level of accountability and transparency as was done before. He called on companies and private individuals to come on board and be a part of history at the historic Albion Cricket Ground.
