Berbice, through a 60th minute goal off the boot of Glenton Lyte defeated host association East Bank 1-0 when play in the Guyana Football Federation Under-17 Inter Association Under-17 tournament continued on Saturday at the Grove Playfield, East Bank Demerara with a double header.
The opening encounter between Upper Demerara and Bartica ended in a 1-1 draw. Bartica, coming off a 1-0 win also over East Bank one week before, took the lead after 30 minutes through Raphael Noel goal.
But that advantage was soon cancelled out by Upper Demerara’s Brian Johnson’s 45th minute strike. The second half failed to produce any more goals as the rubber ended with both teams taking a point each.
East Bank remained pointless after two games, both loses on their home ground by 0-1 margins. The home team like they did against Bartica allowed a simple goal to beat their defense and goalkeeper, this time it was a 60th minute Glenton Lyte strike that silenced the home crowd at least for some time.
Despite their disappointment, the home fans urged on their charges that created many opportunities but failed to bury those chances much to the disgust of the fans.
Credit must go to the boys from the East as they stood strong in defence in the face of the offensive blitz by the East Bank boys especially in the last 20 minutes of the match.
