Young female nurses attached to the Bartica Hospital are calling for proper security, especially at nights. There was a recent incident involving a man seeking medical attention for a cut, about 3:00 hours Thursday. The man kicked down the hospital door and later terrorised the young female nurses on duty.
The three female nurses who were on duty early Thursday morning had to seek refuge in the washroom and in the Nurses’ quarters, at the Bartica Hospital out of fear of being seriously attacked by the man who was behaving violently.
One nurse said that instead of stating his needs, the man proceeded to kick down the Hospital door before ransacking the female section of the Hospital.
After becoming afraid of the man’s violent behaviour, the Nurse and her two colleagues proceeded to find refuge in the washroom and the Nurses’ quarters. The Nurse added that the man roamed in search of the nurses.
The nurse related that the man even proceeded to interfere with a female Brazilian patient, who was in the female ward before threatening, “I will pull up this injection to kill myself.” He then fled the Hospital without being attended to.
A policeman later visited the Hospital and told the nurses that he had sent the man to the Hospital.
The young Nurses said this is the third incident of people visiting the Bartica Hospital late at nights and behaving violently.
They say that they want proper security, especially during the midnight shift.
