Guyana’s domestic aviation industry is expected to have a new member boasting two three-engine aircraft providing the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) certifies Golden Arrow Airways.
The company made its final step in complying with GCAA requirements yesterday with a “demo run”, which left Ogle International Airport at 10:30 am and arrived at Hampton Court 19 minutes later. The aircraft departed Hampton Court for the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, where it executed a simulated abort landing.
According to Nirvana Mahase, President and Accountable Manager of Golden Arrow Airways, during an interview with this publication at Ogle International Airport, the entity will be operating out of Ogle to several domestic airstrips including Lethem, Mathews Ridge and Hampton Court.
Mahase said that the company, which has a fleet of two, will be operating daily with unscheduled flights. It has one full-time pilot and four part-time pilots.
Following intense market research and 18 months of preparation to bring Golden Arrow Airways on stream, Mahase said it was discovered that passengers are skeptical about travelling with single-engine aircraft. As such, Golden Arrow Airways invested in the three-engine aircraft to ensure passengers’ safety and peace of mind.
She added that the probability of the all three engines failing at once is very low. In addition, maintenance of the aircraft would be a priority. Caribbean Aviation Maintenance Services Limited would be responsible for maintaining the fleet.
Captain Egbert Field, of Caribbean Aviation Safety and Oversight Services, who was part of the flight along with local media operatives, said he will be recommending that GCAA grants Golden Arrow Airways certification to operate.
