A man and his son who wounded a relative at a horse race meet last Sunday, and chased the man’s son with the intention of wounding him, also, have been charged with unlawful wounding.
The duo, Shivnarine Jainarine, called ‘Bimo’, 48, of Bush Lot Corentyne, and his son Yougendra Jainarine called ‘Chris’, 20, appeared before Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh at the Whim Magistrate’s Court yesterday charged with Unlawful Wounding. They were placed on $50,000 each.
The men are accused of wounding Naresh Ashram, called ‘Raymond’, 45, also of Bush Lot, Corentyne, on Sunday at the horse race meet held at Port Mourant.
The men who are all relatives were involved in a family feud over land for some time, an issue that was known to the authorities.
On the day in question the men were at the horse race meet being held at the Port Mourant Turf Club. Around 16:30 hrs Naresh and his son, Alvin, were attacked by the two assailants.
Yougendra used a cutlass and dealt, Naresh Ashram, a chop on his shoulder, while the father, Shivnarine used a knife to stab the man. The men then chased the younger Ashram (Alvin) across the pasture when the police intervened.
The two assailants were arrested and taken to the Whim Police Station where they were later charged. Ashram was taken to the Port Mourant Hospital where he was treated and sent away.
The men who were represented by Attorney at Law, Ryan Crawford, will have to return to court on May 19, next, for continuation.
The case is being prosecuted by Sergeant Phillip Sheriff.
