Guyana’s Badminton Team to the Annual Suriname Easter International Tournament being played at the Walter Amo Sports Hall, Paramaribo enjoyed mixed results on the opening day, Good Friday.
Matches were played in the Under-15, 19 and Open categories and some of the players moving on to the second round, quarterfinals and semifinals were Narayan and Priyanna Ramdhani, Jonathan Mangra, Ambika Ramraj, Krystal Peters, Hemraj Beharry and Ronald Chang Yuen.
Following are the results of matches on day one contested by the Guyanese:
Under-15 Boys Singles
Hemraj Beharry (GUY) lost to David Cheung (SUR) 22-20, 21-15
Under-15 Mixed Doubles
Priyanna Ramdhani (GUY) and Justin Kertotiko (SUR) lost to Tariq Sweet and Jogia Williams of Suriname 21-16, 21-16
Under-19 Boys Singles
Jonathan Mangra (GUY) defeated Ghalry Oemar (SUR) 21-5, 21-12
Ronald Chang Yuen (GUY) lost to Samuel Ricketts (JAM) 21-2, 21-3
Under-19 Girls Singles
Krystal Peters (GUY) lost to Yuan Yang (SUR): 15-9, 15-11
Ambika Ramraj (GUY) got a walk over into the Quarter-Final
Under-19 Boys Doubles
Narayan Ramdhani and Jonathan Mangra (GUY) defeated Arvind Nannanpanday and Patrick Vigelandzoon (SUR) 21-16, 21-12
Under-19 Girls Doubles
Ambika Ramraj & Krystal Peters (GUY) got a walk over into the Semi-Finals
Under-19 Mixed Doubles
Narayan Ramdhani & Priyanna Ramdhani (GUY) defeated Denzel Sweets & Sherifa Jameson (SUR): 21-17, 16-21, 10-21
Jonathan Mangra & Ambika Ramraj (GUY) defeated Shawn Brandon & Mary-Ann Zhong(SUR): 21-14, 21-14
Ronald Chang Yuen & Krystal Peters(GUY) Lost to Patrick Vigelandzoon & Anjali Paragsing (SUR): 21-8, 21-8
Open Senior Men’s Singles Round Robin
Group A
Christopher Persaud (GUY) lost to Alrick Toney (SUR) 21-15, 21-16 and Virgil Soeroredjo (Suriname #1 seeded player): 21-7 21-5.
Group C
Narayan Ramdhani (GUY) lost to Samuel Ricketts (JAM) 21-8, 21-7
