NOC back after over a decade out
The Annual National Novices Boxing Championship of the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) has been fixed for May 2 and 3 and the venue has been set as the East Ruimveldt Community Centre Ground pending approval.
President of the GBA, Steve Ninvalle, informed that his association is on a drive to take the sport to the people, hence the staging of the event at the East Ruimveldt CC ground. He said that they are waiting official approval from the Mayor and City Council to stage the event there.
The GBA boss further disclosed that Gyms from across the country have been invited with New Opportunity Corps (NOC) being invited to compete after a hiatus of over a decade.
Ninvalle disclosed that he was in recent discussions with Assistant Director of Youth, Mr. Davenand Ramdat, of the NOC to formalise and finalise the participation of the team from that institution. It was disclosed that National Boxing Coach Wincel Thomas will be sent to the NOC to assist in their boxing programme.
This event will kick off the association’s activity for the year, which promises to be a very busy one with several local, regional and international events on the cards for local boxers.
